How to reach the Tuscan resort
By Air
The nearest airports for Montepulciano are:
Rome: 2 hours drive.
Florence: 1 hour 15 minutes drive.
Pisa : 2 hours drive.
If you have organised a car-hire on arrival (recommended), follow our by road directions. If you would like to travel by rail from any of these airports you will need to get to a main-line train station by use of a shuttle-bus, taxi or train.
By Rail
There are Intercity trains that run every two hours to Montepulciano from all major cities in Italy; the name of the station at which to disembark is Chiusi - Chianciano Terme.
By Road
Driving from North to South
From Florence take the A1 motorway towards Rome for 90 kilometers (45 minutes).
Leave the A1 at the Valdichiana exit.
Follow signs to Montepulciano for about 20 minutes through winding country roads.
When you reach Montepulciano, follow directions for Chianciano Terme.
After about 2 kilometers you will reach a cross-road. (you should have the old town of Montepulciano on your right).
Take the left turn towards Chianciano Terme for a kilometre and a half.
On the the right you will come across a signpost for Monticchiello, turn right down this road called "Via della Montagna".
700 metres, on your right, you will see Sant' Antonio sign posted next to a large grey gate.
Driving from South to North
From Rome take the A1 motorway towards Florence.
About 140 kilometres. Take the exit to Chiusi / Chianciano Terme.
Follow the directions for Chianciano Terme (around 12 kilometres).
Drive through the town of Chianciano Terme and follow signs for Montepulciano.
Once through the town of Chianciano, you will have around 10 kilometres of winding roads that will take you through a small town called Sant Albino.
On the right you will find the famous baths called Terme di Montepulciano.
2 kilometres past the baths (on your left) you will come across a signpost for Monticchiello.
Turn left down this road called "Via della Montagna".
After 700 meters, on your right, you will see Sant' Antonio sign posted next to a large grey gate.
Car Hire Information
We recommend that you organise your car rental through your local travel agent as all international airports can be expensive. However should you prefer to take a train to Montepulciano, we can arrange for a hired car to be on stand by awaiting your arrival.
